Our Volunteer in a Community Project

Hey there, our names are Riley, Jesse and Caue. We are just a couple of grade 8 students working together on a project. Recently in health class, our teacher, Miss Eyolfson wanted everybody to work in groups to perform volunteer actions in the school and around the community. For our in school volunteer project, we are doing “Math Help”. For math help, we are decided we will help out grade 6 math. And for our community project, we are doing a Christmas Church Banquet to help raise money for our church. The reason why we are going to a specific church is because we go there for youth and we already know what’s going on.

We would like to talk to you more about our in school projects. Since Christmas is a season of hecticity, we want to give kids in elementary chance to catch up with their school work. Our main focus is on math, since all of us have a strong academic mark in math. We will be more focused on grade 6 math because we all experienced grade 6 math and we all thought that it was the hardest course we ever had besides Gr 8 courses which we are going through now. So next week on day 5 and day 6, will skip health class and come down to Mr Miele’s class to help tutor grade 6 math. When we come and tutor, they grade 6 students may ask us anything they want that is relevant to our lessons. Our lesson will be on gr 6 materials that will later (as in January to June) be covered. So why not give them a head start? And plus, students more likely seem to be more comfortable asking older students or friends for help than asking their own teacher. So we’re here for help! Our project will take place next day 5 and 6 and the next day 5 and 6 after that until Christmas. We hope will will change many grade six students on how they view math!

Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Riley Cote, Jesse NXN and Caue Mueller
